Interested in training as a volunteer mediator?
We are planning to welcome some new volunteers into our service in the next few months. We have a small number of funded training opportunities coming up. (If you are already a trained mediator and are interested in volunteering with us, we have a separate recruitment process. Please contact us at [email protected].)
BHIMS provides multi-party mediation and one-to-one support to members of the community, covering the Brighton, Hove, Lewes, Peacehaven, Newhaven and Seaford areas. We work with people in dispute with their neighbours, family members, or community groups. The work we do affects the wellbeing of the individuals, can prevent homelessness, and reduces the workload on essential community services such as the police and council. We have been proudly serving our community for more than 30 years. As a volunteer you will be able to contribute towards continuing this valuable work. You will join our pool of 30+ active volunteers and work alongside mediators with many different skills and experiences.
The Role Description and Person Specification can be downloaded here.
What we are looking for:
- Willingness to engage in continuous learning and reflective practice
- Availability to meet clients during working hours on weekdays
- Able and willing to travel to the Lewes/Newhaven/Seaford areas on occasion
We strive to create a volunteer pool that reflects the diversity of our local community. We warmly invite applications from individuals who identify as:
- People of colour and from under-represented ethnicities and cultures
- Trans, non-binary, or gender-diverse
- Neurodiverse
- Living with disabilities
We believe that diverse perspectives enrich our work and help us better serve our community. Everyone is encouraged to apply, regardless of background or experience.
